Facts about the German language:

  • There are about 90-98 million native speakers of German, and an additional 80 million who have learned the language, making it one of the world’s major languages. In the European Union, German is the most-spoken mother tongue. It is the world’s second most important scientific mediator and the third-largest research and development language. Worldwide, one in ten books published is printed in German.
  • Today, German is the sole official language in Austria and Lichtenstein. It is an official language in Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Italy, Belgium, and Denmark, as well as in some areas of Russia. In addition to the countries listed, a significant number of natively German-speaking people live in some other European countries and the United States.
  • In a narrower sense, the German language (Deutsch in German), is one of the High German languages. It is often confusedly called “Hochdeutsch” in the everyday vernacular language, thus mixing it with the standard literary German language called Standarddeutsch.
  • Writing system: German version of the Latin alphabet.

For many years now, whenever we hit a capacity bottleneck, espell has turned to Afford's services. As a budget translation company specifically geared to meet MLV needs, they are reliable and easy to work with (a combination rarely found among the multitude of SLV's). What makes them a favourite of our project managers is that they know Afford's staff understand exactly what we want and what we want to avoid. To this day, after jointly implementing over a hundred projects, they have never failed us.
