The Malay Language (Malay: Bahasa Melayu) is a natural language, a member of the Malay-Polynesian language family of the Austronesian languages. An official language in Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore and East Timor. In addition, there are many speakers in Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Myanmar.
Several more or less different dialects exist. Indonesian (Bahasa Indonesia), the official language of Indonesia, also evolved from the Malay language, and is considered a dialect. Grammar and phonetics are fairly simple, it’s easy to learn, and so it was important in colonial times as an intermediary language.
