Facts about the Hindi language:
The Hindi language is one of the official languages of India. More than 600 million people speak Hindi, of which 180 million are in India.
The Hindi language is derived from the oldest known representative of the Indo-European languages, the Sanskrit language, just as many other modern Indian languages. However, among these, the Hindi language is considered the most similar to Sanskrit. The Nepali languageand the Urdu language, spoken mainly in Pakistan, are very similar to the Hindi language. The Hindi and Urdu languages can be regarded as two dialects of the same language, and speakers mutually understand each other. However, an important difference to the Hindi language is that is uses its own font, the Devanagari letters are used, while Urdu is written in Arabic characters.
