During localization, source-language content is adapted to a target-language environment. This is necessary for the target-language recipient to understand the original message, despite cultural differences. The simplest example of this is when one converts units of measurement, for example from kilometers to miles.

Localization is most often associated with the translation of computer programs and applications (software localization) or websites (web localization), however, it covers a much wider area. The most typical examples are the following:

• Software localization
• Web localization
• Localization of content published on user interfaces
• Localization of instruction manuals, specifications, helps, glove-box literature
• Multimedia content localization
• Localization of marketing, sales promotion, creative translation

The translation may be carried out into one language only, but multilingual localization is more common. Larger localization projects are typically technology-intensive. We work with an international translator team and computer-assisted translation tools (CAT tools). We also take advantage of the so-called version tracking provided by CAT tools, with the help of which work may be carried out faster and less expensively, as in the case of changed or updated contents, we need only to work on the modified text parts.
